The spring quarter begins with St Brigid’s Day (or Bride’s Day in the old vernacular), one of the four fire festivals of the year. Imbolc is the time of the Maiden and honors poetry, healing, and the skill of the midwife who stands at the threshold to welcome emerging life.
Spiritually, it is a time to receive insight and inspiration, to seek clarity, and to commit to justice in the purest sense: a revelation and practice of right relationship.
For the floral images, I have chosen spring blossoms, one with a snail in its coiled nautilus-like shell to symbolize growth.
The second set of images focuses on thresholds and gateways. As we lean forward into this time of new birth, thresholds beckon us to risk and change.
The third set of images includes mentors and images of sacred inspiration, including Mary from a roadside shrine in Ireland – battered, broken, but still a powerful mother for those seeking comfort and help; a Zimbabwean elder presenting a child for blessing; and a fiber art Green Man. [NOTE: The original fiber art which I photographed for ‘Green Man’ is available in my Etsy shop.]
Prints of any of my photographs are available in either 5″ x 7″ (for $18.00) or 8″ x 10″ (for $25.00). Some prints are also available in the 11″ x 14″ size for $45.00 and in 12″ x 18″ or 16″ x 20″ sizes (price on request). Prints will be shipped matted in a complementary color.
Prints are available as a custom order through the Etsy shop.
