The Summer Quarter begins with the Beltane bonfires, built from the nine sacred woods, on the eve of May Day. It is the time of dousing the old household fires and lighting new ones from the sacred Beltane flames. The flowing abundance of water in pools, streams, and fountains has special importance in this season. The Maiden gives way to the Mother, and to the hot-blooded lives of heroes and heroines.
Spiritually, it is a time of grace and growth, a time to honor and celebrate the environment and to nurture the burgeoning crops – whether external or internal.
For the floral images, I have chosen an assortment of roses which unfurl in beauty, marking the start of summer in the northern hemisphere.
The second set of images includes spiritual guides and birds (a rooster, full of cocky energy, strutting through Bunratty Castle and the Raven who companions travelers at the thresholds).
The third set of images includes towers and walls, the Gallarus Oratory, and the wild, flowing water of the Chalice Well in Glastonbury.
Prints of any of my photographs are available in either 5″ x 7″ (for $18.00) or 8″ x 10″ (for $25.00). Some prints are also available in the 11″ x 14″ size for $45.00 and in 12″ x 18″ or 16″ x 20″ sizes (price on request). Prints will be shipped matted in a complementary color.
Prints are available as a custom order through the Etsy shop.
